WordPress and JAlbum

Hello,

I have put together a small plugin for WordPress, which allows you to integrate JAlbum galleries directly into your posts. Just download the latest plugin version from my site, or from the WordPress plugin database, and unzip the WP_JALBUM plugin into your WordPress wp-contents/plugins folder. The WordPress editor is then automatically extended with the new JAlbum functionality, and you’re ready to integrate JAlbums in your posts through a user-friendly wizard interface.

Setup of the plugin is done through the WordPress settings control panel.

New features:

  • Integrated fully in the WordPress settings and editor.
  • Wizard interface, no need to enter HTML
  • IFrame album post integration (use JAlbum theme)
  • WordPress album post integration (use WordPress theme)

Example album (Chameleon JAlbum theme):

Example inline album (uses wordpress theme):

En fejl opstod i JAlbum plugin:
Kunne ikke åbne den angivne JAlbum mappe. Sørg for at mappen er en absolut filsti (ikke url) som er tilgængelig på serveren.:
‘C:/Programmer/xampp/htdocs/2007/06/airshow/thumbs’

Enjoy!

    Hi!

Could you pleas be so kind and say WHERE exactly one has to UPLOAD the ORIGINAL JAlbum. Further what exactly means: Absolute server path to default JAlbum folder…

If I try to apply your hints I get that:

An error occured in the JAlbum plugin:
    JALBUM_FAILED_TO_OPEN_ALBUM_FOLDER:

    Any idea?

    Greetings

  2. Hi Andreas!

The documentation for my plugin is under way!

Please download the latest version of it – the error message has been fixed, and help texts are now in place.

In the root filepath you have to enter your webservers absolute root file path. For instance “C:\apache\htdocs” or on linux “/www/user4324/public_html”.

In the album sub folder you should provide the relative filepath from the webserver root. For instance “/wp-content/galeries/rockkonzert/”.

Make sure not to make a double “/”. You can see in the error message that two slashes are currently in place “galeries//rockkonzert”. I’m going to programatically detect and fix this in v1.0 as this has been reported more than once!

I’m aiming for a v1.0 release next week – including a better wizard interface and MOST importantly documentation for the plugin!

Let me know about your experience with the plugin! =)

    Best regards
    Michael Schøler

  3. I forgot to mention:

As to where you upload the album, that is for you to decide. It should be a sub path of your webservers root of course.

    NOW :-) it works.

    Sorry for disturbing!

    Best wishes.

  5. Great – enjoy =)

Be sure to check back for a new version of the plugin – v1.0 is right around the corner!

It would be nice if the Jalbum plugin worked with WordPress’s Pages. At the moment the plugin only seems to work with Posts. If it worked with pages one could create a photo gallery of sorts. I currently use a Page for Jalbums and simply add the path to the albums by hand but it would be nice to handle this through the control panel.

  7. Hi Tom,

I agree – JAlbum integration on WordPress Pages has to be implemented as well as the current post integration.

I’ll give it some effort in the comming weekend! Be sure to look for updates =)

I found a way to get your plugin to work on Pages. I started a Post, used your plugin to put Jalbum photos into it, copied the code created and pasted it into a Page I have setup for Jalbum photos. I just keep a draft post to create the code from your plugin so that I can copy it easily into the Page I have set up for that purpose. Adding the appropriate code manually works also. I’m guessing that embedding JAlbum code into WP will be a bit of work although the JAlbum site offers tips on doing such a thing.

  9. Hey Tom – Thanks for the tip! :)

  10. The perfect FotoAlbum,Thanks.

  11. Michael, plugin works great. Now I am looking for a widget for JAlbum – to display random (or last) pictures at sidebar..

  12. [...] [...]

    Michael,
    i think there’s a mistake in .zip file i downloaded from http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jalbum-for-wordpress/
    It contains the folder jalbum-for-wordpress.
After extracting and activating the plugin i clicked Options/Jalbum which refers to http://test.havers.nl/wordpress/wp-admin/wp_jalbum/wp_jalbum_options.php
This location doesn’t exist and i got a ‘file not found’.
I’ve renamed the folder to wp_jalbum. reactivated the plugin and now i do get the Jalbum options pages.

    Thanks for the plugin.

    Kind regards,
    Bram

    Hi Bram,

That’s strange? Did you unpack the plugin into \wp-content\plugins\wp_jalbum\ ?

I have not had that error reported by anyone before, so please confirm that you unpacked it correctly and I’ll be sure to look into it if the error remains!

  14. hi.
thanks for the plugins. i have been looking for a simple and interactive programme to display my photos on my blog. thank you.

  15. Hi Michael,

It was good news for me when I found your plugin. I’ve been looking for a way to integrate online albums into my wordpress blog, and Jalbum and your plugin was the best solution for me.
There’s a problem, though. I installed and activated the plugin, but I cannot find the Jalbum button when I write or edit a post. Can you help me out?
The Options all seem to be in order.

  16. That’s odd Mawe. What version of wordpress are you using?

The most frequent “error” I get reported is that the plugin options page is not showing. This has to do with placing the plugin in a different folder than intended. The plugin cannot (in its current version) function if its folder is renamed.

  17. Thanks so much for this plugin, I am a long time jalbum fan and this is perfect for WP.
I have a question regarding the directory structure I am using, I cant seem to get it to work…

I have a subdomain in which I have a seperate directory for WP. I have created a folder called jalbum in the subdomains “root” so to speak. My albums would be listed in jalbum folder, “miami”, “dogs”, “clubs” etc.

I keep getting error messages and can not figure out the correct root and relative paths.

    Thanks!

  18. OK.. well- I just tried as adding the subdomains directory at the end of the root path. This works to bring up the thumbs on the post. BUT—- now I get an error when I click on the thumb:

    Not Found
The requested URL /jalbum/miami/slides/IMGP0912.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    http://kapscigarbar.com/jalbum/miami/slides/IMGP0912.html
    This file doesn’t exist…
    It should just be:
    http://kapscigarbar.com/jalbum/miami/slides/IMGP0912.JPG
with no “html” extension, just JPG.

Is this an issue with the album skin? Or is it something I need to do on my end?

  19. LOL, one more question… the jalbum skin is lightbox, should that not be what opens the pictures from the index on WP?

I may have to use the iframe option I am thinking, but then that doesnt integrate so nicely with my WP theme.. :(

    bs

  20. Hi KAPS,

I’ll try out the theme, and let you know. It sure does sound as a theme specific problem – but not an unsolvable one…

    Best regards
    Michael

  21. Thank you Michael!
I seem to have the root problem solved, now I am trying to work on the lightbox problem. Apparently, this skin does not make an “htm or html” file for slides, unless I am doing something wrong? I will try it out with a different skin that makes actual html slide pages and see what happens.

Is it possible to add the choice in the functionality of the plugin to choose what it looks for?

  22. I have installed and activated the plugin on WP 2.3.3, the options page works, but there is no jAlbum button in my TinyMCE Editor …
    Ans suggestions ?

  23. Is there another location we can download the plugin from? WP-plugins is down currently.

    thx!

  24. LutFi

I cannot access the download page, Is there any other location?

  25. Dear Michael,
for my personal WP weblog I want to use the original JAlbum/Cameleon skin, but when I put it as IFrame into my WP Account I have there a vertical scrolbar…

maybe its because of the guestbook ??

I made the IFrame higher, <800pix .. having after guestbook much empty lines.. but it did not disapear.
On the other hand it looks ugly, having so high Iframe.
Have I to remove the guestbook?

    thanks dieter

  26. Hi Dieter

You just setup the chameleon skin to not include a guestbook. See http://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=27218&tstart=0

    Best regards,
    Michael
